WJTA Vacuum Operator Training and Certification Program Overview

WJTA's vacuum operator program offers training and skills assessment for new hire operators covering safe and effective high pressure cleaning, developed in accordance with WJTA’s Recommended Practices for the Use of Industrial Vacuum Equipment. Credentials are stored in a centralized database and are transferable if a trainee changes employer.

The WJTA program is a two-part certification including the computer-based Foundational Training and instructor-led Field Verification.

Program Structure

Vacuum Operator Foundational Training (19VACFT)

WJTA Foundational Training (FT) provides an overview of recommended safety practices in industrial vacuuming operations. The FT course is a 2.5-hour eLearning module that is reviewed and updated frequently to reflect developments in industry technology and WJTA’s recommended practices.

Vacuum Operator Foundational Training covers air mover, liquid vacuum, sewer cleaner combo unit, and hydro/pneumatic excavator recommended practices.

  • Length: 2.5 hours
  • Requirements: 80% score on multiple choice quiz
  • Expiration: 3 years

FT can be delivered onsite at the Health and Safety Council (learn more ), the Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils (ARSC) sites (learn more ), or through remote proctored streaming.

 

Vacuum Operator Field Verification (19VACFV)

WJTA Field Verification (FV) gives trainees hands-on instruction and skills verification led by a WJTA-approved Verified Trainer. The Vacuum Operator Field Verification curriculum and policies will be released in 2023.
